Meet Rosie Chevelle

If you’ve known me for a while, you know that automobiles are a big part of my life. My husband works in the industry, buys/restores/sells muscle cars, and we go to a lot of classic cruises all summer long. Over the years, I have taken great joy in finding things that interest females when it comes to this type of spousal hobby. Don’t get me wrong – the cars are gorgeous and I have my favorites – but how fun is it to create jewelry with a cabochon that is made from old Ford paint? Or carry a handbag that a designer upcycled out of Camaro upholstery fabric?

This past Spring, even the world of high fashion was hit with hot rod fever, as Prada unveiled a collection of nostalgic clothing and accessories. Stirring up memories of times gone by, their leather handbags were decorated with glimpses of history….. their iconic heels accented with flames! While I will probably never be able to afford Prada in my lifetime, we all know that these trends trickle down into the mainstream and I was able to find a dress that was “inspired by” the runways. Being that I go to so many events, I knew it would be perfect for years to come.

But this past Saturday, I took it a step further. We were going to a party where they were going to hold a pinup girl contest. Since Halloween is my favorite holiday, I love dressing up. I guess when it’s not Halloween though, what do you call that? Theme dressing? Anyway, I jumped at the chance and it was easy to accessorize the dress and look online for hair and makeup ideas. I created my alter ago Rosie Chevelle. Here are the details:

Cat eye sunglasses – found at Target
Makeup – red nails & lips, black liquid eyeliner done in cat fashion
Hair – lots of curling, teasing and bobby pins, a bandana and flower clip

Although it was hot, the party was fun and even Richard got into character! He has slicked back hair, faux tattoos, and a Misfits onesie from the kids consignment store I shop at. We brought his pedal car and he had a blast in it as always.

I had such a good time doing this that Rosie may make some more appearances at some more cruises we are doing this month. When I got to thinking about it, I realized that every piece of this look has withstood the test of time. With trends coming and going, red nails and lips are always classic. Dresses that show curves will always be in style. Have fun and celebrate being a girl!
