Tried and True

I’ve had a run of bad luck recently with some items I’ve ordered (a dress, a blouse, a kimono-type thing and a pair of shoes). It’s hard not to get discouraged when this happens, and with the way I shop it’s not always as easy as a return. Quite often I am buying secondhand from eBay, Poshmark, buy/sell/trade boards, or taking my chance on something overseas. Hopefully, I can re-sell these items by the same means or they will filter down to either the consignment shop or donation. When this kind of disappointment happens, I usually look to my “tried and true” style where I know I will be happy and comfy.

I’ve wanted a Free People Lace Trapeze Slip for quite a while now. This is one of those items that Free People carries all of the time – they just come out with different colors/prints. Since it is one of their “standard” items, it usually never goes on sale (it’s $88). But! It is one of those pieces you might find a good deal on at Macy’s or TJ Maxx. Or, my recommendation is to purchase from eBay, Poshmark, or a buy/sell/trade board. You can usually find them anywhere from $20 - $40. I ended up finding mine at Poshmark and I am very happy with my purchase. I ended up choosing an olive green, as it seems to be a color I am getting a lot of use out of lately.

I would never pay $88 for this even though it is a pretty versatile piece. You can layer it over or under a ton of things (I felt I needed a tank under as the lace is see-through). Some people wear it as a dress, but, no, not for me. A long tunic is perfect for me over a pair of distressed jeans! This really is the perfect definition of my everyday look!

Twofer Dresses with Fun Sandals

Last Spring/Summer, I was all about finding these "twofer dresses" (see posts here and here) but never featured me wearing them. Also, since having Carson (and my feet widening) I had been shying away from and kind of sandals that were too crazy in style or color...... preferring my tried and true brown and black styles. But recently, I did buy a couple of pairs that weren't my "new norm" and they just so happen to match these dresses. The colors aren't too out there either - grey and bluish grey - so they should go with a lot. And another bonus: they were comfy all day on the first wear! Which, we all know, is a rarity with new sandals.
Another fun thing worth mentioning about my little blogging hobby..... it's so fun to go to one of my usual photo spots to find out it might have changed! This graffiti door used to look like this. This colorful wall is now brown and black (bummer). Another door I like to use was recently painted white from blue. I guess it helps mix things up!
Both dresses are Duet Dresses from Loft. This dress has come in a lot of color combinations, and this year there are some printed bottoms. This year too, they've come out with another style where the top is more spaghetti straps rather than tank.
The grey lace up sandals are "Vinnie" by Rampage. I got mine at TJ Maxx. There are a lot of cutout / lace up sandals out there right now, but I was really drawn to these. Maybe because the cutouts are more floral like.
The blue sandals are "Backspace" A2 by Aerosoles and I got them at Meijer. I remember admiring this style last year, then called "Cyberspace" from Aerosoles. Anytime a company "rebrands" something to be sold for a little less, I am all over it! In this case, I cannot see any difference except it's their A2 line and a different name. These come in black and tan too.
Throw on a jacket or sweater if needed...... a necklace...... sunglasses....... and that's it!
