Fishing for Deals

I quite often mention shopping at a local consignment shop - My Style, Your Style. I also sell there too. I have found so many treasures there that I wear all of the time...... my Gap jean jacket, my red jeans........

I was there on Tuesday dropping off some sandals that I wanted to sell and to request a check for items I had sold (you can check your transaction history right on their site - how cool). I always take the opportunity to browse the racks. Can you imagine my delight when I found this Anthropologie dress there?!?!?!

It was my size.

I didn't even try it on.

I promptly marched right to the register to pay. Well, use some credit from my account actually.

I looked around hoping no one else would figure out what I had just found!

I hope I didn't scream out loud to attract attention to myself. I don't think I did.

The more I think about that though, the other ladies were probably like, "What the hell lady, who wants a dress with brown fish on it!?!?!?"

I did. I wanted it. It was meant for me.

If you live in a bigger city where there are a lot of Anthro stores, it is very common to find Anthro pieces at thrift or consignment stores. Here in Battle Creek though where the closest store is an hour away? Not so much. So that was part of why it was so exciting. As an Anthro lover myself, I usually do not donate or consign my pieces because I know I can get a better price for them on eBay or the trade market. Some of the fun of buying second hand is guessing the history of your find. I wonder who owned this dress before. Does she love Anthro or was this a one time purchase? Where did she wear this dress? Was it just once to a special event or several times?

Let me introduce you to Vanessa Virginia's Baxter Bay dress, circa Summer 2012. It is a pale celery green which darkens to an olive green. Black and brown accents. Such an unusual color palette but I love it. It has large fish on it with fish hooks along the bottom. It has pockets and a black sash. When researching this dress, I could not confirm if it was originally $158 or $198. Either way, what did I pay? $24

I wore this right away, since I knew with the fitted top it probably wouldn't work much longer into my pregnancy. I threw a black cardi over it, statement necklace from TJ Maxx, and my favorite wedges from Steinmart. The best part of wearing this though? Going into my son's room in the morning to get him ready and the first thing out of his mouth was, "You got fishies!?!?!?!" He is very into fish lately, celebrating his recent 3rd birthday with a Nemo theme. Yeah buddy, I got fishies.... and Mama is just as excited about them as you are!

I love your sons reaction. Priceless. I also love that dress on you. What a wonderful score! At our consignment shop, I have seen Free People but it is always more than what I could get it for at Nordstrom Rack. I have never seen an Anthropologie piece.

So happy you find your dress!

I hope your show went amazing yesterday!

What a great find. I have a local consignment store that gets a good amount of Anthro which is surprising since we are a small, casual beach community. You should make a point of going there once a week.
Have a great weekend,
Stacey
