Fall Into A Routine

Since my husband started back at school in September, I have been trying to dedicate Tuesday and Wednesday nights to beading while he is in class. It has been working out well, but I was finding that my studio was such a mess that I wasn't getting anything done. I'd jump from one project to the next if I hit a creative road block or else get distracted looking at something for too long. So last Friday night, I cleaned and organized my studio to the wonderful state it is in now. My time in there has been more enjoyable, instead of feeling like a crazy person pressuring myself to get something done, get something done, get something done. While cleaning, I realized that it's been about a year since I setup my spare bedroom studio.

Above is a necklace I made to match a new top I got. It is simple - wire wrapped carnelian and crystals with a Tim Holtz key. I wore this combo to work this week.

So, we'll see what I get done tonight. I am already feeling the holiday pressure - the Art Center is starting to take work next week already for their annual Holly Mart sale that starts November 1st and goes through the holidays. I have to get them some stock and start thinking of gifts for my friends and family. I also have some magazine submissions in mind - wow, it's hard to think that it's something I might not see in print until next Summer! And, I have been toying around with the idea of shopping my wood components and/or etched pieces to a local bead shop. They don't carry anything like it. And with the addition of my mixed media jewelry class on Thursday nights in October, that makes 3 beady nights in a row during the week! I can't complain!

You sound like me, busy! I am pretty much in the same boat as you, husband in school, messy studio recently cleaned and as soon as I did I made almost 2 dozen pairs of earrings. I also have magazine puplication ideas I am working on and some shows coming up. I still need to find some stores to carry my stuff, but I think next year is plenty of time for that. The only difference I guess would be that my dayjob is staying at home with the kids. Pretty busy!!

Hugs
Marie

BTW I love the necklace, it's really great!

Eek! Those keys are FAB-U-LOUS! I would love a top like that (and I have a moratorium on patterns of any kind!). That is a great necklace design, Heather, and I can see why you got so many compliments! I know about the getting busy thing...my one and only show is coming up, there is another holiday open gallery exhibit that I am not sure I will do, I want to swap out all the stuff that has been for sale for some time with new designs (I don't have time to make)...and to top it all off, last week we decided to put our house on the market! Now I REALLY have to clean (and purge and organize) my studio! I feel like I am in beading limbo...I need to clean, but then I won't be as free to create if I have to keep it clean (heehee) and then in the new space, wherever that may be, I might not have as nice a space, or it will take a lot of work to make a space that works. I may have to go into beading hibernation and that makes me grumpy! Harumph! But the possibilities are exciting. Can't wait to see all the great ideas that will sprout from your peacock feathers on the days that you plan to be productive and prolific! It is always great...
Enjoy the day!

Thanks to you both! It is amazing what a difference a clean/organized studio makes! Marie, I'd love to be able to stay home if I have kids in the future - enjoy it! Erin, I got the top at JC Penney! Good luck with your house on the market! I agree - when I don't get to be creative, I get cranky! That's why I knew I had to clean the studio!
